With a fantastic organization, great competitors and light sea breeze it promised to be an awesome sail weekend. On Saturday November 12th our team was very early on site to prepare the equipment. With juniors Jean Patrick van der Wolde (KA sails, Patrik Diethelm), Milan Gielingh (KA sails, starboard), Aron Etmon (North Sails /starboard) and grandmaster Perry van der Wolde we had a nice team to compete against the rest of the participants including Tati Frans and Bjorn Saragoza, two professionals from Bonaire. The participants could register in two classes, a Funboard and a Formula class. Jean Patrick registered in the Formula class Men because he wanted to race against Tati, Bjorn and the local hot-shots. Milan, Aron and Perry joined the Fun board class due to the fact that they did not had a Formula board available to use.
Everybody expected a formula show of Tati and Bjorn, but during the first day of racing it became clear that Jean Patrick was able to keep up with the pro’s.

But it was Tati who had the best speed and tactics and after one day of racing he was in first place followed by Jean Patrick and Bjorn Saragoza. In the Funboard class U18 it was a battle between Aron and Milan. It was very exciting to watch them flying across the course, and it was Milan who was in first place after 1 day of racing.
In the Funboard class Men it was all about the seniors and old school windsurfers. Grandmaster Perry van der Wolde and Ed de Groot were battling for the first place. After Perry had some bad luck in the last race he saw Ed going first to the finish line. After one day of racing Perry had to be satisfied with the second place, with Ed in first.

The forecast for the second day of racing was good, but it was mother nature who had other plans. A lot of rain, thunder and 30 knots gusts made it impossible to start. After the thunderstorm the wind settled down to 5 knots. The race committee decided to start but during the race the wind dropped to almost zero knots. After two days of racing Jean Patrick van der Wolde was second just behind Tati Frans in the Formula class, Milan Gielingh first and Aron Etmon second in the Fun board U18 and Perry van der Wolde second in the Funboard Open Men class.

PLease take your time to watch a couple of pic's and the starts of heat 3 and 4 of the formula and funboard class.

Great sailing, great fun and great beer :o)  Cheers

podium WC 2011

During this 5 day event the wind conditions were far from great. During the first three days there was not enough wind to start. On Saturday in the late afternoon the wind was sufficient and the race director was able to pull of one elimination round for almost every class. The masters had to postpone their winner’s final because of the entering darkness.

In the juniors category Jean Patrick was second in the first heat and had secured his place in the winners final. In the winners final, Jean Patrick had a perfect start near the starting boat and after he had adjusted his sail on the flight, he was untouchable. With almost a half leg lead he ended as first. Milan Gielingh had problems with the start and could not plane immediately. He ended as sixth in the winner final.

Aron Etmon had also a problem during his first start and fell on the starting line. He quickly recovered and with the proper speed he was able to end as third in the U15 category.

During the first official NASAF windsurf race of 2011 the Ihangloose windsurfteam displayed an awesome performance.

Windsurfing Curacao organized on January 30th a downwind slalom race in the Spanish water of Curacao. The day started with light wind and gusts up to 20 knots during rain showers. A nice variety of conditions made the choice of equipment difficult. The competitors were racing in 3 classes. Under 15, Under 18 and 18+.

In the Under 15 class Aron Etmon was too fast for his competitors and came out as the fastest in his category after 8 heats. Youngster Delano Moreno with only 10 years old and racing with a KA Koncept 5.0 sail was able to end third in this category. In the class under 18, Jean Patrick van der Wolde was dominating his heats and scored only ones. Milan Gielingh was also racing great and ended as second. In the category 18+ the oldest competitor and master Perry van der Wolde was able to stay ahead of his competitors and ended as first in his category.

The many training hours and international racing experience of the Ihangloose windsurfteam members started 2011 with positive results in this first official race.

The Curacao windsurfers have as of 2011 also a race serie on the Sint Jorisbay. This means that we can race twice a month which is a perfect preparation for the World Championships that will be hosted by Curacao in mid April. Hope you enjoy this promotionmovie for the Sint Joris bay the official race area for the IFCA Worlds Slalom Juniors, Youth and Master 2011.

Thanks to all of ours sponsors once again – you guys are a part of our victories!

Hangloose.
